I'll Be Here Awhile.

I don't know where to start with this past week.

Wow.

It was probably one of the most up-and-down, shocking weeks I've ever had. I guess I'll start with the bad...

My uncle died.

I mean, he wasn't my blood uncle but if I look back to how close his family was to our family, he was as good an uncle as anyone else.

I haven't talked about them before. At least, I don't remember ever talking about them before but I'll guess I'll start from the most beginning.

My uncle and my dad were apparently very good friends from the beginning. They both had their first children in the same year. That was me and his son who's some months older than me. The crazy thing is that they had four children like us and the rest of their children are around the same ages as all of us. We have videos from back when I was like one years old with his son when we lived in an apartment. Their children and our children were so close, we were practically brothers and sisters, I feel like. I remember them coming over to our house and us coming over to their house. And I remember sleeping over plenty of times and them sleeping over at out house plenty of times.

I remember that their family moved from apartment to apartment all the time while we had moved to a house and settled there. The same house we're living in now. And then one day, they all moved to Nigeria but I never knew why. I think I was about 8 years old, if I remember correctly. It's been awhile, that's for sure. Then one day, I'm not sure how many years later, they moved back to America, but instead of back home, they moved to Texas.

The stuff that happened in between, my parents never told me until recently. That their mom, my aunt, had some affair and that their parents were have problems and that they divorced. To this day, parents still don't talk their mother, apparently.

I think my dad and my uncle lost connection after the years but reconnected about 3 years ago and from what I know, they talked to each other a lot. My uncle visited us and it was good seeing someone I hadn't seen for years. He said that one day we were gonna come visit and see all of the family again. Not long after, he had a massive heart attack and my parents (or maybe it was just my dad) went to Texas to see him. The heart attack left one side of his body weaker than the other. The thing is, I never really noticed it when he came to visit us about 1 or 2 years ago though he definitely looked weak.

I remember him saying something about the Monsters that my dad drank and how he used to drink them all the time and it was what contributed to his heart attack. After I heard that, I was afraid for my dad. I always got a little anxious when he had those boxes of Monsters from Costco but he hasn't drank them recently.

After my uncle left, I just assumed that things were getting better over there in Texas. I never really thought of them like that again. I tried to get in touch with the two older kids one time but they didn't respond. And that was that.

My dad was still keeping in touch with my uncle, I know that for sure.

Then last week, on Wednesday, I came home late after staying after school and buying some supplies from the craft store. I go to my room, feeling excited about the new projects I was planning on doing and then I hear a heart stopping sound from my mother upstairs. I thought something happened to my father. I started shouting up to my mother, "Mommy, what happened?" I was SO scared, thinking something really bad happened to my father. I couldn't even get my feet to go up the stairs. My heart was beating so fast. It wasn't until I hear my dad's voice that I got the courage to go upstairs.

And then my parents say it, my uncle died. At that instant, it was not sinking in. My mom told me to go down and rest because I was tired. But I didn't sleep well. It was still not sinking in and right now it still doesn't sink in that he died. That I will never see him or talk to him again. I keep thinking of his children. My dad said that his son was the one that told him the news. Apparently, his father had a talk with him, telling him that if anything ever happened, who was he to call and stuff like that. I can't even imagine doing something like that. And it also makes me think that his father was obviously not in a good condition if he felt compelled to talk about something like that. The younger son called 9-1-1.

I keep thinking, what if it was my family. What if it was us, kids. And it could've been us. We are the just same, the same ages. My uncle's son is the same age as me, and I think of all the stress I have in the classes that I take right now. How could I deal with school, my parents, and the death of my dad at the same time? I just feel so sorry for that whole family.

I cried once in the night. But that was it.

It was also Spirit Week that week. I really wasn't in the spirit mood. I don't really care much for that school, honestly. The thing that brightened my week was the A that I got on  my Chemistry test. And after pep rally on Friday, me and my friends went out to eat. And that was that.

So yeah... Let me attempt to finish homework.
