My Dreams Have Been Crushed.

Let's just say, I'm not getting paper. I'm not getting paid. No money. Forget everything I ever said.

So today was the first day of my internship. And honestly, I was anxious but I wasn't sure why. So I found out I was working at a law firm in downtown DC. And so yesterday, my mom and I went to pick out work clothes for the days I'm gonna be there. And oh my gosh. I picked out some sexy dresses. Just saying.

My counselor told us to wear the most conservative clothes we possibly can and then ask the people what the dress code is when we get there. I didn't ask what the dress code was, but I could tell they weren't very strict. OPEN-TOED SHOES!

But today, I wore a brown pant suits with orange and white pinstripes. I wore brown boots and a white blouse underneath. Understand that this is SUMMER. But it was totally fine because inside the office was cool. It wasn't until I got outside that I HAD to take off my blazer. And I would've taken off my boots but that would have been unacceptable.

So yeah, my dad dropped me off at the law firm. And the exterior of the building is SEXY. It's just like you would imagine an executive office building to look like. And the interior is magnificent as well. But it's not perfect. I noticed there were chips in the door handles and the ceiling of the elevator is undone. But other than that, it's pretty nice.

The firm was on the 11th form but honestly, it didn't feel like it. But it's not like I looked out any windows anyway.

A woman in a dress showed me around the office. And I'm so mad at myself for not remembering the names. I was so worried about saying the right things and seeming nice and presentable, that I didn't even try and remember names. The only names I got were the guys sitting at the computers next to me, and the guy who taught me how to index. And the other guy who he works with. And one of the ladies. But everyone was so nice and friendly.

So I have my own computer station and desk and everything where I have to do the indexing. And that's pretty much going through the attorneys' boxes and inputing their folders into the computer system. I guess it's a way for them to find their papers because they have A LOT of papers. It's really not that hard except writing the descriptions for the papers is kind of confusing, especially when they don't write descriptions on the tabs. And I don't like how they aren't consistent with the style. Sometimes the client's names would be in all capital letters, and sometimes they weren't. I guess that's my little obsessive compulsiveness.

So my computer and desk is in between to guys, one on the left and one on the right. They are a bit younger than everyone else, I'm guessing they are in their late 20s. But nowhere near my age. There's no one around my age at the firm except me. Which I like. But the whole thing would've been sexy awesome if I was getting paid, you know.

While I was indexing, I have to admit, I went through some of the files and read them. I would've sat there reading all of them except I think the guy on the right of me was suspecting something. So I didn't. I only read the interesting ones. I saw someone's will and there was a car accident case and the Israeli Olympic Team murders and all this cool chiz. I felt like I was on Pretty Little Liars when they went into the hospital and found the medical records. I couldn't believe that me, a teenager, was getting access to all this information.

All that indexing makes your mind numb after awhile. And there were periods of time when I was done with boxes and I was just waiting. And I think that really got to me because next thing I know, I was reading Positions On The Wall on one of the articles that I was indexing. Yes Positions on the wall. Get it? But it turned out to be Portraits on the Wall. And if I hadn't re-read it, I probably would've had some explaining to do. LOL.

The best thing about it is having all the drinks you want. FOR FREE! Water, Soda, Tea, blah blah blah. It's not like I even drink soda. But since I'm not getting paid, I should probably take some with me. Actually, the drinks aren't even the best thing. THE SUPPLIES ARE THE BEST THING. Pens, Markers, Notebooks, Paper. It's like a writer's dream in there. I will surely be taking good use of that room.

The bathrooms are really nice too.

Another negative about indexing job are the paper cuts. I know one of the ladies mentioned it but I wasn't really thinking into it until I felt a few stinging sensations on my fingers. You know how when you get a paper cut, you don't feel the pain until WAY after you actually got the cut? Yeah. That was me. It's not even that it's THAT painful. But it's annoyingly painful. If you get what I even mean.

So since the place is in downtown DC, there's a bunch of cool places I could go. And I'm definitely taking advantage of that. I feel so freakin' executive. Little ole me. Walking up to some building like I'm actually working there. Ha.

One thing I noticed was that there was mostly white people at the firm. It's funny because you really don't feel like it is and you don't really notice. But it was a contrast to the summer camp, which was ALL black and it was still in DC. At my school, people think DC is all black people and ghetto and such. But it's really not. It depends on the neighborhood you're in. And according to my Government teacher, there's way more white people in DC than blacks. I should probably look that up. But yeah...

There's not much to say is there. Our class is going to take a tour at the UMD and I'm kinda psyched for that. I live right near the university and I've never been in there except for when I went there to play orchestra for graduation. But that doesn't count because I wasn't actually in the learning environment. I know the other guys are all WAH WAH WAH about it but I'm excited.

We're playing kickball after that and I REALLY wish I had some comfortable, good-looking capris to wear. It's gonna be 100 degrees outside so we probably won't even play. But still... Since I live right near the UMD, I don't have to take the metro back to DC. I can just walk home. So that's cool.

Now I'm just saying nonsense no one cares about. SO BYE!
