I wanted to write this about two nights ago but I didn't have the time so I'll try to recreate my excitement.
I WON THE GRAD NIGHT T-SHIRT CONTEST! *cue victory jump, pause, and fade*
So let me tell you how it all went down.
I sent in this design on Friday, last week, which seems like it wasn't even that long ago.
It's a pretty simple design. I did it on Photoshop. We were limited to two colors so I was absolutely confused as to how I could possibly create a good looking design with just two colors and green was going to be the color of the t-shirt. Black is usually my go-to color but the theme was like Fun in the Sun or some sh*t like that, basically a Hawaiian theme, and I thought black just wouldn't go. So I realized I could maximize my limits by using black space (is that what it's called) but instead of black, it's green space...
Well, I won't go into much MUCH detail but basically that's what I could come up with and I printed it at school (their colored printers make things come out really nice) and gave it to my teacher as my entry.
I'm not sure how my competition was like. I only saw the entries of two other people. One was created by a friend and she partnered with someone and the design idea was nice, but I guess the execution of it was iffy. The second one I saw was a pen drawing and it was really nicely done but there was some weird shape on it that I couldn't decipher but I could see why it wasn't chosen because it would've made for a kind of plain t-shirt.
But that's all I saw.
Anyway, on Wednesday night, I got an e-mail from a lady on the Grad Night committee and she told me to call her before 11 pm because she had important news to tell me. Well, I saw this e-mail at like 10:45 pm and my internet and phone were both fuqing up so I didn't get to call her until about 7 minutes before 11 pm but she answered.
So basically, she told me that people voted on my t-shirt and thought it was beautiful and yeah, I won. That's the gist of it. I already had my freak out before she called so I was a bit more calm and collected on the phone. And she was just negotiating times when I could pick up the prize money (which is $50 btw) and she told me not to say anything yet because she still had to break it to everyone else that they had lost. So yah.
The next day though, I walk into my Bio class and my friend congratulates me on winning the contest and I'm just like, "What?" She told me it was posted on Twitter and I thought that was so freakin' weird since I was just told at 11:00 pm AT NIGHT not to tell anyone. News travels fast I guess.
But the thing that stirred me the most was when she told me that she liked it but some people didn't. And this was actually my greatest fear: people not liking the design. I was also weirded out at the fact that someone already had and posted my design and I was curious to find out who but my friend couldn't tell me. She went on to describe my design and she was like, "Was it the one with the fishes?" and I was like "No? They were sea gulls...?". But it didn't occur to me that she probably saw the wrong design until now because I'm looking at my design and those seagulls look nothing like fish. At least, I don't think so.
But I was so bothered by the fact that some people may not have liked my design that I wasn't even happy anymore about winning. I had to keep telling myself that the people who allegedly trashed my design didn't even bother to make one themselves so they have no room to argue. And also, I'm not the one who chose it. A committee of people chose the design so they can't get mad at me for it. My friends were very encouraging as well and I ended up sending it to them towards the end of the day and they liked it.
I'm just hoping to God that she had mistaken someone else's design and that when the t-shirts start selling, people like it.
This morning, my name was announced as the winner of the contest. I didn't hear it though but everyone else did and I got a bunch of "Congratulations" and "Can I see the design?". And I said a whole bunch of "Thanks" and "Sorry, I don't have it with me. But I'll show it to you on Monday." But I'm still nervous about showing it to people. Gah.
Sooo.... yeah. Things have been pretty regular. We missed two days of schools this week b/c of snow and it still felt like a full week of school. Today was the worst and I was in a constant daze/zombie phase from the lack of sleep I've gotten since the beginning of high school. I fell asleep on the bus ride to internship multiple times and I'm sure I looked haggard when I walked off that bus.
At my internship, I haven't been doing sh*t. Yesterday, I actually did nothing and surfed the internet filling out applications for summer internships and whatever else I felt like doing. I was prepared to do the same today but by the time I got to internship, a lab meeting was already in session. I had to sit in that until almost 2:00 pm. I did nonsense on the computer until about 2:30. Then, I went into go watch a study being set-up. Then, I did more nonsense on the computer. And then I found myself having to call and schedule participants and mail things.
That was the end and I went home and ate oatmeal and slept forever. Okay, no. I probably slept an hour and a half and laid in bed for the rest of the time.
And now, I have to go to church tomorrow. Ugh.
I can't wait for Daylight Savings time though. It'll be brighter outside for longer. I can go to the library and stay there for more than an hour without worrying about having to go home in the dark. Hanging out with friends will definitely be easier. It'll be great.
I still seriously need to lose weight. That's another story for another day. And I found out that spirit week is the same week as UMD's spring break which means I'm gonna be able to hang with friends, go home early and sleep, and do whatever sh** I want. Again, it'll be great.
It's hard to imagine that it'll almost be spring with the cold weather though. I'm waiting for it to get 60 degrees. UGH. SPRING COME!
